Money vs. Convenience

Crap!  I was all set in taking this new job really close to home, cutting down my commute time by 30 minutes or more (even for a pay cut!) But it did have a sign-on bonus which helped, too.

So today, my boss at my current job asked if I would stay on for considerably more money per hour (it would be $8 more an hour than the job I accepted).  The only drawback would be that I would be considered "pool" staff instead of part-time so would not earn benefits (which I don't use now) nor would I earn vacation time, etc but she said I could still work my 3 days per week.  BUT, with the increase in pay I'd probably only want to work 2 days per week, thus reducing my weekly commute.

Ugh!  I was so excited about FINALLY making a decision, now I'm confused again.

There are other benefits to working at this other setting besides being close to home dealing more with my professional development as a PT.

Comments welcome!

My vote is to go with the new place. Better commute, vacation time and professional development seem like they should win out. Plus, maybe you COULD get more money from the new place if you asked.

Hi Andrea!! Didn't know you guys had a blog! I agree with Becky. The commute alone would be worth it, and she's right. You could get more money from them if you asked.... :)

Yeah, I'm probably going to go with the new place. Thanks for the feedback! Oh and I did ask for more $ and they agreed to $.50 more per hour (WOW!) because they didn't want me earning more than their current employees that have the same amount of experience I do. Whatever.
